The Hokies hosted Ohio State for a two-day dual meet in Christiansburg, falling to the Buckeyes despite a successful weekend. The No. 10 men’s team fell to the No. 12 Buckeyes 177-176, while the women’s side fell to No. 10 Ohio State 196-157.
Tech Women:
Carmen Weiler Sastre, Emily Claesson, Anna Summers and Fanni Gyurinovics kicked off Day One with a 1:31.07 200 free relay, good for first place. Saturday morning, Emma Atkinson, Emily Santos, Athena Meneses Kovacs, and Claesson started the day off strong with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:40.09).
Delaney Bookstein placed third in the 500 free with a 4:57.39 time, followed by a first-place finish from Emily Santos (1:01.76) and a second-place finish from Nichelly Lysy (1:02.54) in the 100 breast. Lysy and Santos continued their streak with second (2:16.62) and third-place (2:16.88) finishes in the 200 breast, respectively.
Weiler Sastre earned a first-place finish in the 100 back with a 53.16. Emma Atkinson swam a 1:56.00 200 back, taking first place. Atkinson continued her successful weekend, with a 54.38 in the 100 back, good for second place. Allison Henry took third place in the 400 IM, swimming a 4:23.51.
Weiler Sastre took first in the 100 (49.03) and 200 free (1:47.66) while Claesson (49.80) took second in the 100 free. Claesson claimed a first-place finish in the 50 free with a 22.96.
Meneses Kovacs took second in the 100 fly with her time of 54.75. Julia Murphy posted a 2:04.16, which was good for third place in the 200 fly, and another third-place finish with a 55.69 in the 100 fly.
Weiler Sastre, Santos, Meneses Kovacs and Claesson earned first in the 400 medley relay (3:37.81). The women ended the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 relay from Weiler Sastre, Claesson, Gyurinovics, and Atkinson.
On the boards, Peyton Guziec earned a 313.95 on 3m, clearing the zone cut. Michayla Eisenberg placed third on 1m with a 290.33.
Tech Men:
Youssef Ramadan, Brendan Whitfield, William Hayon and Tanish George Mathew kept the energy up, taking first place in the 200 free relay with a 1:18.72. The men recorded another first-place finish in the 200 medley relay from Ramadan, Carles Coll Marti, Hayon, and Whitfield with a 1:25.64.
Luis Dominguez recorded a 1:37.56 200 free, good for second place with Lee Naber placing behind him in third (1:38.80). Coll Marti recorded a dominant first-place finish in the 50 free with a 19.70, while Whitfield finished second with a 19.85.
Hayon swam a 47.42 100 fly, good for first place. He was followed up by Ramadan in second place with a 47.50. Landon Gentry placed third with his 1:48.74 in the 200 fly.
Coll Marti earned first in the 200 IM with a 1:44.77, before placing first in the 100 breast with a 53.31. Joseph Hong followed him up in third place with a 55.24 in the 100 breast. The pair earned another top-three finish as Coll Marti won the 200 breast (1:57.47) and Hong finished third (2:00.89).
Nico Garcia Saiz took third in the 200 back, swimming a 1:46.40. Whitfield took his first individual top finish in the 100 free (42.97) while Ramadan posted a third-place time of 43.94. Ramadan swam a 47.74 in the 100 back to place first, followed by Gabriel Yuk with a third-place finish (48.56).
Ramadan, Coll Marti, Hayon, and Whitfield kept the momentum up with a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:10.71). The men closed out the meet with a 2:54.05 second-place finish in the 400 free relay with Whitfield, Hayon, George Mathew and Dominguez.
On the boards, Jacob Fisher took second on 1m with his score of 361.50 and first on 3m with a 373.95. Zachary Shaddy earned third place on 3m with a 366.08.
The Hokies have their second intrasquad Hokie Belt Challenge next weekend, Nov. 9 at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
