CHRISTIANSBURG –A guided bicycle tour along the Huckleberry Trail is scheduled for June 14.
In an announcement from the Montgomery County Regional Tourism, director Lisa Bleakley said that the ride will combine education with recreation as its guides share information about the local history and natural surroundings of Montgomery County with riders during this fun ride.
RIDE Solutions and Montgomery County Regional Tourism will host this family-friendly guided tour along the trail while introducing history about the two towns which have been connected by the trail since 1904.
The tour distance is two miles starting at the Miller Street/Blacksburg Library trailhead at 5:30 p.m. The ride, which extends outward to the Corporate Research Center, will conclude approximately 7:30 p.m.
Bicycle helmets must be worn by all riders.
This event is part of the Mountains of Music Homecoming week produced by the Crooked Road organization and promoted locally by the Montgomery County Regional Tourism Office.
Information cards for both the guided tour and ongoing self-guided tours are available at the Blacksburg Library on Miller Street in Blacksburg and the Christiansburg Recreation Center on Franklin Street.
The information card includes a link to the on-line tour map developed by RIDE Solutions. There are trailheads to the Huckleberry Trail at both locations.
The Mountains of Music Homecoming tour is free and open to the public. Riders may bring their own bikes or may reserve a bike in advance from the local bike-sharing program, ROAM NRV.
The organization has made a limited number free of charge for the tour. Reservations are will be taken on a first come, first served basis by contacting cat@ridegotcha.com. There will be promotional give-a-ways available for tour participants.
The event is sponsored by RIDE Solutions, Montgomery County Regional Tourism, the New River Valley Bicycle Association, and Roam NRV.
