Radford High School has a new girls’ soccer coach. Nikki Greco, who has served an assistant at the school for the past three years, was awarded the position.
Greco also played on a Bobcats team that won a state title in 2007 and was the head coach for Virginia High School in Bristol before returning to the community where she grew up.
“I love this sport, and it has been a huge part of my life since I can remember. This soccer program is so special and I have loved coaching these amazing girls the past three years, so it was a pretty easy decision to apply,” she said.
Greco replaces Darryl Gillespie who retired this summer after seven years at the helm of the program. He recommended Greco for the opening.
She also coaches a travel soccer team, the SWVA Rush and played at Emory and Henry College after graduating from Radford High School.
Her goal as a coach is based on two objectives: win a state championship, and help the girls build skills to be successful in the future.
“I feel that sports can be so important in helping to develop strong skills to be successful in the real world. I feel that many of my coaches in my career helped me develop skills that got me to where I am today and I want to do the same for these girls,” she said.
The team will begin its spring season in mid-March.
