Basil George Grapsas, 94, of Radford, passed away Friday, June 14, 2024.
He was born in Athens, Greece on June 17, 1929, and completed his education in America attending Massachusetts State University and graduating with a degree in engineering. He retired in 1994 from Hercules, Inc.
A loving and devoted husband and father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dolores; son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Mary; grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas, David, Jodi, Alexandria, and Alexander; and great grandchildren, Emilia, Aria, Theodore, and Penelope.
He was preceded in death by his son, John.
He had many passions, which included opera, sports cars, and learning. He was an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Roanoke where he also served on the Parish Council and as its past president. He was a devoted follower of the arts and was a past member of the Board of Trustees of Opera Roanoke.
The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Thursday, June 20, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
Formal funeral services will be conducted at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Roanoke Friday, June 21, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Father Theodore Lyketsos officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park in Radford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Huntington Blvd., Roanoke, VA or to Opera Roanoke, 20 Church Avenue, S.E., 3rd Floor, Roanoke VA 24011.
