William Davis Goode, of Radford, passed away at the age of 100, on Saturday, July 27, 2024. He was born on June 5, 1924.
Following his WWII service in the Army Air Corps as a navigator, he graduated with a degree in engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1947. He then worked as a mechanical engineer at Lynchburg Foundry in Radford for over 35 years. Following his retirement, he served as a consultant for the company. Bill was a longtime, faithful member of Central United Methodist Church and the Gideons. His life was a testimony to his Lord and Savior, church, family and community. He touched many lives through his love, generosity, compassion, service and faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Clay and Hinda Austin Goode; brothers, Joe, Benny and Austin Goode; and his sister, Marie Hobbs.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 75 years, Polly Dunwoody Goode; daughters and son-in-law, Janet Goode Stahr (Richard), and Diane Rebecca Goode; granddaughters and their spouses, Chelsea Stahr MacMeekin (Scott), and Christine Ellen Stahr (Paul McSwain); great-grandchildren, William, Elle and Lola MacMeekin, and Dash and Hazel McSwain; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Charles Judy, Donna Mooney and Michael Mullins for their loving and excellent care over many years.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, at Central Church Radford with Pastor Doug Levy officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.
