The Blacksburg High School Golf Team had a 38-shot victory in the River Ridge District match held this week at the Auburn Hills Golf Club.
Leading the way for the Bruins was Jake Albert who tied the course record with a round of 11 under par, 61.
Also contributing to the record-breaking 20 shots under par total of 268 were Pierce Campbell with a five under par 67 and Cameron Sharp with a four under par 68. Rounding out the Blacksburg scoring was Jack Skinner with an even par 72.
As a team, Salem shot a 306 to place second.
Christiansburg was third with a 307. Josh Cummins led the Blue Demons with a 73. Ian Roark shot a 76 and Lucas Sawyers a 77.
A day later, Auburn High School took a win over region rival George Wythe. Auburn shot a 302, while GW recorded a 334. Drew Royal led the way for Auburn with a 73. Matthew Altizer added a 74 and Cody Fleet with a 77.
On Tuesday, Blacksburg officially became the River Ridge District champions with a when at the Roanoke Country Club. Blacksburg won the title by over 200 strokes. Leading the way for Bruins were Jake Albert and Jack Skinner who both shot 5 under par. Also, contributing to the Bruin’s 26 shot victory were Cameron Sharp at 3 under par and Pierce Campbell at even par.
