West End Wednesdays, the summer afternoon (5:30 – 8:30 p.m.), free concert series on the lawn at Glencoe Mansion and Gallery (600 Unhuh Drive, Radford) is going green and offering a yoga garden.
In its fourth year, the family- and dog-friendly community gathering features local music talent, food trucks and dessert vendors, handicraft artisans, and craft beer purveyors.
Hosted by local non-profit organization, MountainTrotter, West End Wednesdays, affectionately known as “WEW”, was created not only to showcase a variety of local talents, but also to offer a mid-week, after-work grassy place for the Radford community to relax and enjoy a summer’s evening.
Held on second Wednesdays, the July 10 event will highlight health for people and planet.
“West End Wednesdays is excited to now offer a free community Yoga Garden, hosted by Downey Dog Yoga from 6 to 6:30 p.m.,” said Lauri Murphy, MountainTrotter’s executive director. “Downey Dog Yoga provides the mats, but people are welcome to bring their own.”
“We will have a variety of dessert vendors including donuts, cookies, and popcorn,” Murphy said, “as well as vendors such as hand made soaps, fine jewelry and community organizations such as our composting station with Levy Gardens and the Radford Public Library to name a few.”
The event remains free to the public with the help of donations, local sponsors, and the Radford Heritage Foundation.
July’s musical accompaniment is local trio, String Theory, an acoustic Americana group who specializes in clean harmonies and simple arrangements from a variety of influences
“String Theory was a huge hit at Craft & Draft, Mountain Trotter’s sister event, and we are so excited to welcome them to the WEW stage!” Murphy said.
Local vendors and community organizations included The Radford Public Library, Willow Thyme Soapery, Glencoe Mansion reenactors, and much more.
“Stop by the WEW Merch Tent for our dog station, free items for the kids, and your chance to win WEW items such as reusable cups and Frisbees and more!” she said.
The summer’s last West End Wednesdays will be August 14, with a live performance by Blacksburg’s Issac Hadden and his band One-Eyed Jack.
Hadden was recently praised for his performance at Martinville’s Rooster Walk, for his performance with Roosevelt Collier Trio.
