If laughter is the best medicine, audience members attending the Comedians Gone Rogue Show can get ready for a full dose.
Each month, McClain’s at First and Main in Blacksburg provides hosts comedic talent to take the stage. Performers come from all over the country along with local talent in the New River Valley.
Veteran comedian Katherine Rogue and board member of the Roanoke Comedy Festival not only organizes the events but is also an active performer. Rogue’s most recent stand-up comedy event was held May 10 in Fredericksburg through Stage Door Productions.
On June 28, comedians will be traveling to Blacksburg for a comedy show people are not going to want to miss. The ticketed show is a monthly event that provides great adult entertainment.
“They are high quality shows, you are going to leave feeling like you just left a comedy show in a big city,” Rogue said.
Additionally, sponsored by Comedians Gone Rogue, is open mic comedy night; a unique opportunity to support stand-up comedians working on new material for their routines, sometimes taking the stage for the very first time. It is a fun and exciting environment and free to attend. Open mic has been a weekly event, previously located at The Beast of Blacksburg Pizzeria and Bar, with a new location coming soon. Check www.nextthreedays.com or Comedians Gone Rogue on social media for further information.
An additional group of local comedians, often attending the other open mic and ticketed stand-up comedy shows, is the Virginia Tech Club of Comedy Conglomerate.
“They have shows twice a month; to see the students perform,” Rogue said. “These are paid performers working all summer to perfect their talent.”
The VT Club of Comedy, also known as ComCon, was founded in 2018 by Sam Frye. Frye, “started ComCon@VT after noticing a trend for competition in other performance-based campus clubs,” according to www.vt.edu. Downtown Blacksburg’s The Milk Parlor is also a local host for the VT Club of Comedy Conglomerates. Dates for upcoming shows can be found by searching Comedy Conglomerate VT on Facebook.
Tickets for the June 28 comedy show can be purchased on Event Brite; general admission is $15 per person and VIP couch seating is $25 per person. The next open mic is schedule for May 22.
