We in the Virginia Tech athletics department, like all of you, are concerned about what is happening around the world right now and hope you and yours are safe and healthy. However, we are proceeding with hopeful optimism that we will be able to come together wearing maroon and orange in Lane Stadium to cheer on the Hokies later this year.
The 2020-21 athletics season is a reseating year for both Lane Stadium and Cassell Coliseum. Fans wishing to secure and select seats for the 2020 football season must order tickets and complete a Hokie Scholarship Fund gift prior to April 30, 2020 (The deadline was originally extended from March 31, 2020).
There are many more questions than answers at this point as pertain to the 2020 football season, but as we near the Hokie Scholarship Fund giving deadline and season ticket priority order deadline we are hopeful that some of this information will help to answer questions you may have about the upcoming football season and the possible outcomes.
We are pleased to announce the new 10% down payment plan, an additional fan-friendly payment option available for fans interested in renewing or purchasing new football season tickets. The payment plan started in April with additional charges taking place at the beginning of June, July and August, as applicable.
Season ticket prices range from $350 to $450 for the 2020 football season. At this time, all seats will be categorized as $350 location-based seats. If seats are selected at a higher price point during the selection process (June – July), the difference in payment will either be due at the time of the seat selection, or, in some cases, will be added to the July and August payment installments.
To summarize the information, we provide the following:
- Ticket payment plans available right now for fans making a decision near the deadline
- Options for season ticket holders who have already renewed
- Hokie Scholarship Fund per-seat required contributions
- Refund policy in the scenario that 2020 Football games are cancelled
You may be asking how you can participate in 2020 with uncertainty being the only constant right now. Here are a few scenarios that illustrate the options available to you at this time, in advance of the April 30 deadline, depending on your individual situation. As always, please call or email our team at the numbers/emails listed below for individual questions.
If you have not renewed/purchased your 2020 football season tickets and are not sure if you will, we understand. We know many of you are waiting for more certainty on the 2020 football season. Please note that in the event that games are cancelled, you will have refund options available for the ticket order and required per-seat gift amounts, detailed below.
Season tickets purchased after April 30 but prior to July 21 will not be in the seat selection process. Customers purchasing in that window will be contacted by the ticket office in mid-July to finalize their seat assignment with a ticket office representative. Beginning in late July, live seat assignments will be available for purchases made on hokiesports.com.
In addition to season ticket renewals and purchases, fans are required to make their gift to the Hokie Scholarship Fund prior to April 30 to ensure that priority point rankings and membership levels are activated for the seat selection process and associated donor benefits for the 2020-21 athletic year.
If you have not renewed/purchased season tickets for the 2020 football season but are planning to do so, we encourage you to join the family. By renewing/purchasing prior to April 30, you ensure your participation in the seat selection process this summer and have the opportunity to secure seats for the 2020, 2021, and 2022 seasons, provided appropriate payments are made in each of those three years. Those schedules include games against Penn State, Notre Dame, and the return of West Virginia to Lane Stadium along with the usual slate of ACC opponents.
There are two ticket payment options available to you if you are wishing to renew/purchase season tickets for 2020.
Opt into a payment plan for your order with 10% being charged now and the remaining balance divided into installments in June, July, and August. If you opt into the payment plan and you select tickets in the $375, $400 or $450 price points, the amount owed for those seats (in addition to any additional required per-seat gifts and parking requirements) will be applied to the payment plan installments in June, July and August.
Pay the full $350 per season ticket price today. If you pay in full, please note that if you select tickets in the $375, $400 or $450 price points during the seat selection process, you will owe the additional amount (in addition to any additional required per-seat gifts and parking requirements) at the time of check out.
If you have renewed/purchased your 2020 season tickets and have already paid in full for your order, thank you. You are all set and will receive information in May regarding the seat selection process. At selection time, if you select tickets in the $375, $400 or $450 price points, you will owe the difference (including ticket price and any additional per-seat gift) at check out.
If you have renewed/purchased your 2020 season tickets and have already been in a payment plan, thank you. You will receive information in May regarding the seat selection process. Please note that you will not be charged a final payment in May as previously planned. Updated payment schedules will vary by account based on the current amount owed with the next payment resuming as early as June and the final payment no later than August. At selection time, if you select tickets in the $375, $400 or $450 price points, you will owe the difference (including ticket price and any additional per-seat gift) in conjunction with the payment plan installments in June, July and August.
Hokie Scholarship Fund Membership Levels and Per-Seat Requirements:
Thank you for supporting the Virginia Tech Department of Athletics and our 550+ student-athletes with your generous contributions to the Hokie Club and your purchase of season tickets. Your gift supports scholarships for all of our student-athletes.
Once you have ordered your tickets, we kindly remind you that you are required to contribute to the Hokie Scholarship Fund at a Membership Level that will match your potentially required per-seat contribution and your preferred assortment of benefits.
If parking for the football season is important to you and you have purchased a parking pass from the ticket office, you can decide on a membership level based on access to particular parking zones: Golden Level ($2,750) and above allows access to Zone A Parking if available, Bronze Level ($625) and above allows access to Zone B Parking if available, and Gobbler Level ($25) and above allows access to Zone C Parking if available.
At the time of seat/parking selection, you will be required to acknowledge any additional ticketing charges/Hokie Scholarship Fund contributions based on the season ticket/parking pass location you select and the payment options associated with your payment plan (in-full or installments).
What happens if the 2020 football season is cancelled?
In the unfortunate event that the 2020 football season is not played, refund options will be provided to fans as it relates to per-seat gifts and ticket orders. As it currently stands, there will be three options available in terms of crediting fans who have made a commitment for 2020.
Designate per-seat gifts and/or ticket payments as Hokie Club donations for 2020-21
Defer per-seat gifts and/or ticket payments to the next football season
Receive a refund on the credit card or the bank account used to make the purchase for the per-seat contribution and the cost of the ticket.
More details on this policy will be shared in the coming months with the next update coming towards the end of May. We are working to provide additional updates as more information is available to us. Many of the answers to your questions will be dependent on individual account history and will require personalization based on preferred outcomes by each donor.
These refund options apply only in the event that the season is completely cancelled, not postponed. In the event the season is cancelled, refunds will be an option for the cost of the season tickets and for the required per-seat donations for seats chosen through the seat selection process, not the entire gift to the Hokie Scholarship Fund.
