Just three weeks are left in the high school football season, and things are starting to really heat up. Christiansburg and Radford seem to be locked in for the postseason, but their final few games will help to decide their seeds.
Area Top Five: 1) Glenvar, 2) William Byrd, 3) Salem, 4) Radford, 5) George Wythe.
Player of week: Pace Prioleau had a 55-yard interception return touchdown and blocked two punts in Radford’s win over Floyd. For his play, he is the player of the week.
This week’s games:
Salem (6-2) at Christiansburg (5-4)
Salem rolled in a 68-0 win over Cave Spring. Josiah Persinger scored three rushing touchdowns and finished with 102 yards on 10 carries for Salem (6-2), while Kyshead Arrington added three rushing scores on just eight carries. Eli Taylor collected 216 yards on 8-of-10 passing with a touchdown throw to Coen Logan, who tallied 151 yards on four catches
Last week, Christiansburg turned the ball over three times in the second quarter inside their own 20-yard line as Patrick Henry scored three times in 1:46 to put the game out of reach. Christiansburg’s lone score came in the fourth quarter on a 33-yard pass from Izaiah Cotto to Donovan Richardson. PH would score two more times in the fourth.
Matt Annis led Christiansburg with 116 yards on 18 carries. Izaiah Cotto threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Donovan Richardson. Cotto finished 3 of 6 for 54 yards.
Eastern Montgomery (0-8) at Twin Springs (1-7)
Twin Springs has been outscored 342 to 88, while Eastern Montgomery has had a similar fate in 375 to 38 comparison.
Patrick Henry (5-3) at Blacksburg (4-4)
Patrick Henry rolls into town after a sounding victory over Christiansburg.
Jaxon Keys rushed for 156 yards on 25 carries last week and scored twice as the Bruins moved back to .500 with a win over the Hidden Valley.
Sam Szefc threw touchdown passes to Xavier Price and Kadin Deeb and finished 11 of 20 for 115 yards.
Carroll County (5-4) at Radford (6-3)
Carroll County continues to hang around in the Three Rivers District and could affect Radford’s seeding in the upcoming playoffs with a win this Friday night. Carroll seems to be a lock for the Region 3D.
Radford had to hang on as a 29-yard field goal late in last week’s game gave them a 24-20 win over a very good Floyd team.
Predictions:
Christiansburg 30, Salem 27
Eastern Montgomery 24, Twin Springs 20
Patrick Henry 44, Blacksburg 14
Radford 32, Carroll County 20.
