By Marty Gordon
Grace Hutson was a standout girls’ basketball player at Christiansburg High School two years ago before she transferred to St. Joe Academy in Huntington, WVa. The 5-10 rising senior guard announced earlier this week she would continue her playing career at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).
Earlier this year, Hutson was named the West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 1.9 assists per game. In addition to VCU, she had offers from Radford University and William & Mary.
Hutson helped St. Joe to a 22-1 record and a No. 24 national ranking.
VCU went 20-12 last season, 13-3 in the Atlantic 10.
Hutson plans to major in pre-med with the goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
