NRV CARES is a private non-profit organization that is dedicated to protecting children, educating families and providing resources for children in the New River Valley. This was the first ever Flannels and FUNds event. Many of those who went enjoyed it, including the little ones and some furry friends. The musical artists of the night, American Roots and Jim Bohan, front man of popular local band, Jimothy, provided the event with upbeat music featuring covers from the decades past and acoustic folk sounds to enjoy while people ate and mingled. The food included charcuterie snacks, meatballs, pulled pork, brisket sandwiches, macaroni and cheese and for those with a sweet tooth, cookies and cake. Event goers had access to plenty of refreshments, with coolers filled with ice, sodas and water, to warm apple cider, to wine and seltzers for those of age.
According to their RSVP website, the event raised $2,580 from ticket sales and donations. The proceeds from this event go towards NRV CARES efforts and programs. NRV CARES strives to help educate and provide for families all around the New River Valley with services like parenting classes and support. NRV CARES holds other events throughout the year, like their Annual Auction, to help serve the communities, like Radford and Montgomery County, that need them and the education they provide.
