BLACKSBURG – What’s shorter than a TED Talk and twice as fun?

The local community is invited to the Faculty Nutshell Talks on Tuesday, March 4, at 5:30 p.m. at the Moss Arts Center. This event features Virginia Tech faculty delivering entertaining and engaging 90-second presentations on their current research endeavors.

With research spanning seven of Virginia Tech’s colleges, attendees will get a whirlwind tour of topics including feeding the world, using math to explore biology, building wooden skyscrapers, security and privacy in augmented reality, living your best life, and much more!

This free event is open to all, great for adults and school-aged children alike, and aims to foster deeper connections between the university and the community. Speakers will present to a public audience and a diverse panel of judges — including a local seventh grader.

At its core, this event highlights the power of storytelling in science communication — a crucial tool for connecting ideas to audiences, bridging communities, and making complex research meaningful for all.

Organized by Virginia Tech’s Center for Communicating Science, with support from the university’s Office of Research and Innovation and the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, the Faculty Nutshell Talks aim to foster curiosity, creativity, and community connection.

Don’t miss a high-energy evening of rapid-fire presentations and science storytelling while you discover the innovative work happening right here in the Blacksburg and Christiansburg community!
