RADFORD – The Radford Fire and EMS Department recently issued a request to the public to check house numbers for visibility.
“From an emergency services standpoint, our job is to provide rapid, efficient, and effective service,” the announcement reads. “As part of that service, we may on some occasions be asked to respond to your home or business. During emergencies, very valuable time can be lost if we cannot find the proper address. Placing your address so that it can be seen from the roadway is extremely helpful not only to the fire department and EMS but to law enforcement as well.”
The department offered the following helpful tips:
House numbers should be a minimum of three-inch numbers on both sides of the mailbox. If the house does not have a mailbox, a minimum of three-inch numbers should be affixed to the side of the house facing the roadway if within 75 feet of the roadway
If the house sits back farther than 75 feet from the roadway, a minimum of three-inch numbers should be affixed to a post at the roadway.
