RADFORD – Three Dalton Intermediate School students have earned six awards from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

“Congratulations to our art students who received honors from the Scholastic Art Competition this year,” the school announced. “Excellent job!”

Annabelle Schindler won three Silver Key Awards for her paintings “Holiday Hideaway” and “Sunset in Orange” and her drawing “Basket of Blooms.” Cooper Bartos won two Honorable Mentions for his painting “Planet” and his drawing “Town.” Colin Castleberry won an Honorable Mention for his photograph “River Rising.”

Their work will be on display at the Fine Arts Center of the NRV starting Jan. 25.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, founded in 1923, are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Alliance’s mission is “to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards,” according to its website.

“The awards give students opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. In 2024, more than 110,000 teens across the United States and Canada entered more than 340,000 original works in 28 different categories of art and writing.”
