Radford Army Ammunition Plant community meeting

The Radford Army Ammunition Plant (RFAAP) will hold the next Commander’s Community Meeting at 6:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Christiansburg Library at 125 Sheltman St., Christiansburg. Additionally, the event will be broadcast on Facebook Live from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant Facebook page. These meetings are open to the public and are an opportunity to learn about RFAAP Modernization and Environmental Projects. The Radford Public Library will have a book sale on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. There will be many children’s books and many science fiction and fantasy books. It will also be a very big sale with lots of books in all categories. We save all year all the Christmas items, as well. Come and support the Radford library and do some Christmas shopping too.

Women With a Vision Bible Study of First Baptist Church, 555 West Rock Road, Radford, will hold a Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024, 1 – 3 p.m. Area vendors will have tables as well as the Bible Study and Youth Group of First Baptist Church. Baked goods and hot dogs will 

be available both days.

Vintage Market

Market Square Park, 100 Draper Rd. SW, Blacksburg, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The market is made up of a carefully chosen group of vendors who are selling a wide selection of quality vintage items, upcycled crafts, and occasional antiques.

 

Monday, Nov. 11:

 

Veteran’s Day

Blacksburg closings: All town administrative offices will be closed. The Blacksburg Aquatic Center and Blacksburg Community Center will be open. Blacksburg Transit will operate on full service, but BT offices will be closed. Trash pickup will not be affected. 

Christiansburg closings: Administrative offices closed. Recreation Cener open regular hours.

Radford closings: Administrative offices closed. No trash pick-up – Monday trash will be picked up Tuesday. Drop center closed. Radford Public Library closed.

 

Tuesday, Nov. 12:

 

Radford City Council meeting

The Radford City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Radford Municipal Building, 10 Robertson St., Radford. The meeting is being held on a Tuesday due to Veteran’s Day. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. See the agenda at www.radfordva.gov.

 

Blacksburg Town Council meeting

The council meets in regular session the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. These meetings are open to the public and televised live on WTOB Channel 2.

 

Christiansburg Town Council meeting

Regular town council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Town Hall (100 E. Main St.). The public is welcome and encouraged to attend, with a citizen hearing time reserved at each meeting for residents to bring any matter they desire before the entire council.

 

FamilyREADS with Literacy NRV

At the Radford Public Library, 5:30 – 7:45 p.m. If you are a parent with low to intermediate English language skills, sign up for Family Reads in partnership with LiteracyNRV. Registration required. LiteracyNRV will host seven weeks of learning each Tuesday from Oct. 1 – Nov. 19. We’ll have fun activities for kids aged 3-8 so you can focus on your language studies (siblings are welcome, and homework help is available). A story time, educational activities, and games will be provided for all children. Families will receive free dinner! Radford Photo Club meeting

The Radford Photo Club’s next meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the Radford Public Library. The speaker will be retired naval aviator, Captain Rich Davis, who was recently featured on Artistic Encounters – “Meet the Artist” on PBS. The meeting is open to the public. Sons of Confederate Veterans meeting

The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stuart Horse Artillery Camp 1784 will meet at 7p.m. at Aly’s Family Italian Restaurant, 3204 Riner Rd. Members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) are also invited to attend. Member Dana Jackson will speak on “How the Taliaferro family of Stafford County, Va. sustained themselves during the first year of Reconstruction.” For further information, please call 540-320-4315 or 540-239-9864

Blacksburg Aquatic Center closed

The Blacksburg Aquatic Center will be closed for construction, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Lap swim will be available Monday-Friday, 5:30-8:30 a.m. and 5:30-8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. and Sunday 1- 4:45 p.m. There will be no morning Water Aerobics or Therapy Swim. The Aquatic Center should reopen and resume normal operating hours Monday, Nov. 11.

 

Now through Nov. 20:

 

Faculty Showcase Exhibition

The Radford University Faculty Showcase Exhibition is open in the Radford University Tyler Gallery, Tyler Avenue, Radford. Come see artwork from faculty across the campus through Nov. 20. The closing reception will be Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. and includes refreshments.
