Carolyn Owens Clayton, 78, of Blacksburg was carried away Sunday, June 3, 2018 on a warm summer breeze to her beloved mountains to reunite in spirit with her parents and await her family. She was born in Maysville, Oklahoma to the late Jesse Frank and Edith Smith Owens.
None of us ever imagined life without Carol. She is so special: a devoted wife, a protective and loving parent, and a loyal friend. She was known and loved by many. She was always there for us, with a warm and cheerful smile, an optimistic outlook, and, when we needed it, a compassionate heart and gentle hand.
Carol was put on this earth by a loving God, who used her to exemplify the Perfect Mother. Throughout her beautiful life she reached out, took in, nursed, fed, and sheltered all sorts of God’s creatures—anyone whose path she crossed who might need the gentleness and loving kindness of a mother. She mothered children, grandchildren and parents dutifully. Carol was a real-life miracle, a gift to us all. We are the fortunate ones–having a good, caring, unselfish mother, loving wife, and devoted friend is the most precious gift a person can ever receive. She has made the lives of all of us better, richer, happier, and stronger. We know one day we will all be with her again. Until then…we will miss her greatly and remember her always. She is survived by her husband of 60 plus years, Edward R. Clayton; daughters, Ginger Clayton and her husband, David Long, Reed Clayton Buckland; son and daughter-in-law, Hunter and Ella Clayton; grandchildren, Brock Clayton, Afton and Peyton Buckland, Ava Clayton.
No funeral services will be held, but the family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. S.W. Blacksburg, VA 24060.
