City Council observes Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial Week

The sacrifice of law enforcement was honored at Monday’s city council meeting with the passage of a proclamation to recognize National Police Week 2017.


Radford Police Chief Don Goodman, Radford Sheriff Mark Armentrout and several police officers were in attendance for Monday’s reading of the proclamation, which serves “to honor the service and sacrifice of those law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty while protecting our communities and safeguarding our democracy.”

The proclamation recognizes “individuals have committed their lives to protecting and serving Radford’s families, businesses, neighborhoods, schools and community and “risk their lives in the line of duty to maintain the safety of our community while striving to uphold the rule of law.”

The proclamation also pays “tribute to the officers who have fallen in the line of duty and recognizes the sacrifices made by the families of those officers, as well as the families of those who continue to protect and serve our communities.”

May 15-21, 2017 is recognized as Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial Week in the City of Radford, and the proclamation “calls this observance to the attention of all citizens.”
