Planning your wedding can take up much of your time, and you still are not sure if you have it right. Being busy with work and/ or college courses, you seem to lose a week each month and the stress of planning the wedding has you behaving not so polite to your family and friends at times.

What is one of the first things you wish you knew? You see weddings on TV and in the movies they seem to last only 2 minutes. Well, that’s right but how long does a wedding ceremony last in real life? How long should you plan your wedding reception to run, 3 hours, 5 hours? Do you want a DJ? who will make your cake? what is the best catering company and what questions should you ask at that all important meeting with the venue? But first and foremost, is there an ordained minister available on the same date you can get your favorite venue to hold the reception.

Christiansburg Parks and Recreation is offering a wedding planning class “How To Plan & Direct Your Wedding” this August. It is offered in two parts. It will be held on Thursday, August 17th and 24th from 6 PM until 7:30 PM. Each class offers different information (there is just too much to learn for one class) On the 17th, the instructor will offer information and advice about planning your ceremony (the history and etiquette of weddings will also be discussed) and on the 24th the instructor will talk about Receptions, how to plan them and the best ways to organize the reception so your guests will stay, enjoy themselves and you will have a party to remember. This is an intense class designed to make you think and help you create the best possible wedding and reception. You will also be shown how to direct a wedding, so you can have a friend direct it for you. A mock wedding rehearsal will be performed so that you can see the best way to have a 45 minute rehearsal. Class participants will be the “wedding party.”

If you wish to sign up with Christiansburg Parks and Recreation, the class is $35.00 for town residents and $55 for non-residents. Registration is through August 10th.
