Christiansburg High School has announced the appointment of Kamren Harris-Gilliam as its new softball coach.
She replaces Sean Gaynor, who moves to Auburn High school.
Harris-Gilliam has served as the junior varsity head coach at Christiansburg since 2022.
“This felt like the natural next step at exactly the right time,” she said. “I have had the privilege of coaching many of these girls since they were in eighth grade, and as a teacher at the school, I see their growth both in the classroom and on the diamond. I wanted to ensure the continuity of this program and to continue making a positive impact on such an outstanding group of young athletes. I am grateful to our principal Shane Guynn, and Athletic Director Mike Hunter for their trust in me to lead this program forward.”
Harris-Gilliam has been coaching at various levels for nearly a decade. Before coming to CHS, she served as the varsity head coach at Cumberland High School, leading them to the Conference 42 Tournament Semifinals, and spent time as a varsity assistant at Lake Taylor High School. Additionally, she has assisted in coaching within travel ball associations at both the 16U and 18U levels.
Her primary goal is simple to win. “CHS has a culture of success, and I intend to continue to foster a championship mindset. We are going to step onto the field every day with the mindset of competing at the highest level. Beyond wins and losses, however, my mission is to develop exceptional student-athletes. I want to use the game of softball to prepare these young ladies for their futures. We want to play a brand of softball that makes our school and entire community proud every time we hit the field.”
Previously, she had played softball at Cumberland High School, where she earned all-district and all-region honors. After high school, she played club softball at Old Dominion University.
She obtained a bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University in Sports Management, with minors in Marketing and Coaching Education and also holds a master’s degree in Sport Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Christiansburg is two years removed from a state Class 3 title and was 11-11 this past season. They open the spring season on April 14 at Salem.
