The Virginia State Police will be conducting a traffic safety initiative called Operation DISS-RUPT for a 48-hour period on the Interstate 81 corridor on September 19 and 20.
DISS-RUPT is an acronym for Ditch Distractions, Never Drive Impaired, Comply with Speed limits and Seat Belt Safety. This operation will coincide with Child Passenger Safety Week.
Along with enforcement, troopers will engage the public with safety talks and hand out brochures about traffic safety in the rest areas and will have messaging on the travel boards within the Interstate 81 corridor. The goal is to achieve zero fatal crashes during the designated enforcement period, and to reduce the total number of crashes on our interstates for the calendar year by 10% plus increase seatbelt and child safety seat usage while traveling.
The public will be provided information brochures and pamphlets on the Move Over Law, Ride2Save Lives, Human Trafficking information, recruiting and VDOT traffic alert programs. The 48-hour operation will be held in conjunction with VDOT, the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the West Virginia State Police.
