On Wednesday May 31st, the Radford Chamber of Commerce held their 3rd Annual Golf Tournament at the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech. Even with a week delay due to inclement weather, the tournament didn’t lose any teams.
The tournament kicked off at noon, gathering all the golfers at the driving range to be able to view the Helicopter Ball Drop. The ball drop commenced at one; it contained over 250 golf balls for the individual drop and 25 balls for the team drop.
The lucky winner for the individual drop was Kim McKinney, winning half of the proceeds of the golf ball ticket sales, while Radford Sports Properties won the team drop and a quick $200.
The winning didn’t stop there! Of the 25 teams, we would like to congratulate Appalachian Machine of Dublin came out as this year’s tournament winner, which was their second ever Chamber Cup win.
The excitement continued when Ken Lucas of Atmos Energy, hit a hole in one on the 17th hole! Lucas won a complete set of Taylor Made clubs, complements of Harvey’s Chevrolet. Until the winning shot was hit, George Harvey, Sr. stated that it has been at least 10 years since a hole-in-one prize has been awarded in a golf tournament!
We were thankful for the weather holding out and the continued success of this year’s golf tournament. The tournament could not be a success without our title sponsors; Patrick Moore, Attorney at Law, Atmos Energy, Skyline National Bank, Radford Drug, and Ballpark Signs.
Save the date for next year’s tournament on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018.
