Wayne Spencer Cattlett, 92, of Blacksburg died peacefully at home on Dec. 8, 2017. Wayne was born in Lee’s Summit, MO. on Jan. 11, 1925. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Washington Cattlett and Eunice Adella Cattlett, his brother, Arthur Wilson Cattlett; and his former wife, Marjorie Ann Cattlett.
He is survived by his Loving wife Miriam; his daughter, Paula Miller; his stepsons, Timothy Cundiff and wife Tina and Beverly Cundiff and his wife Pat. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; Matthew, Ryan and Mark Miller, Ross Cundiff [Rachael], Paige Jones [Michael], Morgan Hedderick [Frank], Lucy White [Bimi], Nina, Jacob and Luke Cundiff and stepgrandchildren, Johnie and Grey Hood. He is also survived by six precious great grandchildren.
Wayne graduated from Eudora Rural Kansas High School. After High School he had a military deferment to help on the family farm. In 1945 he left the farm and was able to join Army. After his service, he returned to Lawrence, Kansas where he received his B.S. and M.B.A from the University of Kansas.
Wayne had a working career that served him well, working in business finance with people. He worked for several companies as an auditor before going to work for Hercules Powder Company in 1961 as a controller. In his 31 years with Hercules, he and his Family moved twelve times. This moving instilled in him his love of travel, so upon retiring in 1991, he and Miriam continued to spend much of the next 26 years “on the road”.
Wayne was an Army Veteran, a 37-year member of Blacksburg Methodist Church; a Paul Harris Sustaining Member of the Blacksburg Rotary Club; a Shriner for over 50 years and an avid member of the Blacksburg Sports Club.
Wayne was a man of truth, honor and integrity. His word was his bond. His support of Family and friends was boundless.
Memorial Services will be held today, Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Blacksburg United Methodist Church, 111 Church Street, Blacksburg, Virginia 24060. Wayne will be laid to rest in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. The family received friends on Tuesday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. SW, Blacksburg.
