Carlik Jones will transfer from Radford University and play his senior season at the University of Louisville. He will be eligible immediately as a graduate transfer.
Jones had announced his intentions to transfer for his final season of eligibility shortly after being named the Big South Conference Player of the Year. He was rated by ESPN as the number one graduate transfer in the nation. He had narrowed his choices down to eight schools including Louisville, Maryland, Michigan State, Marquette, Texas Tech and Gonzaga.
He also submitted his name to the NBA draft advisory board before making his decision to play for the Cardinals.
This past week, Jones was selected as a Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) First Team All-State Member. He had already been named a Lute Olson and Lou Henson All-American, along with a NABC First Team All-District member.
In 2019-20, Jones led Radford to its second consecutive regular–season title. He ended the year ranked 28th in the country in scoring, averaging 20.0 points per game.
He was the only player in the nation to average at least 20 points, five rebounds and five assists per game, and one of only 16 players in Division I men’s basketball to accomplish that feat since the 1996-97 season. He also closed out the season shooting 48.8 percent from the floor and 40.9 percent from beyond the arc.
The Big South Player of the Year had 18 20-point games; three of those included 30-point outings. Jones became only the seventh player in conference history to reach 1,000+ points and 400+ rebounds and assists in a career. He ranks eighth in Radford history with 1,552 points.
It’s the first time Jones received VaSID recognition and Jones is the first Highlander to receive VaSID first-team recognition since Art Parakhouski in 2008-09.
