Radford fine arts show, tomorrow
A juried exhibition of recent works by Southwest Virginia artists will be shown from June 29-July 21 at the Radford University art museum in downtown Radford. The opening reception will be on June 29 from 5-7 p.m.
Active Adult Day, tomorrow
Active Adult Day will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 29 at the Meadowbrook Community Center. June’s event will feature an ICE CREAM SOCIAL! Come out for a fun game of bingo and win some neat summer prizes. Ice cream will be provided and everyone is encouraged to bring your favorite topping to share. Grief group meeting, tomorrow
The monthly grief group meeting will be held Thursday, at 6:30 p.m at Christ Lutheran Church in Radford in the fellowship hall. This is open to all who have experienced losing a family member or friend, position or function, pet, or other loss. For more information email pastor@clcradford.org.

Farmacy Garden
A community garden is located right next to the Health and Human Services Building. Volunteers are needed to help the Montgomery County Health Department with the garden this season. The hours are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9-12 p.m.
They grow a wide array of vegetable crops, as well as fruit crops (and just installed some berry bushes and brambles.) All volunteers get to take home some produce, so this opportunity would be especially good for anyone that might need a
little extra help affording fresh fruits and veggies. They have 6 raised beds in the garden that are senior accessible (4 that you can work in from a seated position and two that you can work in standing). Call RSVP for more details.
American Legion meeting, July 6
The American Legion, Harvey-Howe-Carper Post 30 will meet on July 6, at 7 p.m. at the Post Home on 27 West Main St. in Radford.

League of Women Voters Roanoke Valley, July 16

Senior Police Academy, July 17
The Christiansburg Police Department, Christiansburg Recreation Department and Christiansburg/Montgomery Triad S.A.L.T. Council are now accepting applications for the 2017 Senior Citizens’ Police Academy. The academy, which will be held July 17-21, from 9-3 p.m., is free and open to any citizen 50 years and older.
During the five-day course, participants will tour the Christiansburg Police Department and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, learn about the drug task force and vice units, meet the K-9 units, visit the firing range, hear from a variety of speakers and learn about self-defense, internet crimes against children, radar and DUIs, investigations, and evidence collection.
Applications can be picked up at Christiansburg Recreation Center. All applications are subject for review and approval. Participants will undergo a background check.
3rd annual Jazz & Ribs Feast, July 28
The Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley and The Southwest Times are happy to announce Pulaski’s 3rd Annual Jazz & Rib feast will be Friday, July 28, 2017, 11 a.m. -11 p.m. in Jackson Park, located at 42, 1st Street, NW in Downtown Pulaski, Virginia across from the town municipal building.

West End Wednesdays
Join us at West End Wednesdays, Radford’s FREE Concert & Market Series today. West End Wednesdays runs the second Wednesday during the summer months, 5-8 p.m. at the Glencoe Mansion grounds. This family friendly event is located directly next to the mansion, under the large beautiful trees with plenty of lawn-chair, blanket, and dancing room.
Live Music by West End, a singer songwriter duo that you may very well recognize as some of the baristas from Radford Coffee Co, and True North, a dynamic modern rock group singing originals and well known covers that you’ll be sure to sing along to.
