Arleta Lively Boyd, 85, passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, at Pulaski Health and Rehab Center. She was born Aug. 12, 1938, the daughter of James Frank and Nettie Boone Lively. She was a lifelong member of Fairlawn Grace Brethren Church and retired as department secretary of the Plant Pathology and Weed Science Department at Virginia Tech. Arleta was a member of the NRV Community Chorus for many years and also enjoyed quilting, sewing and the senior bowling group.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert Merrill Boyd; mother and father, Frank and Nettie Lively; sisters, Zelda Boyd and Betty Craft; brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Betty Lively; and great granddaughter, Leila Hamad.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Joby Boyd; daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa and Kelly Rutherford; grandchildren, Savanna Funkhouser (Chad), Samantha Hamad (Amir), Shauna Rutherford, and Robert Boyd (Stephanie); great grandchildren, Scarlett, Atticus and Camilla Funkhouser, Hazen and Hanna Hamad, and Jack Boyd; brother-in-law, Leslie Boyd; sister-in-law, Mary Boyd; and other nieces, nephews and cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank Pulaski Health and Rehab and Commonwealth Senior Living for the loving care Arleta received.
The family will receive friends noon- 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023, at Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Cameron Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.

Arleta was a nice, easy going department secretary to work with. I enjoyed her friendship, calm demeanor and easy smile.
