BLACKSBURG – Blacksburg Town Council member Liam Joseph Watson, 24, was arrested July 24, 2024 on felony charges related to election fraud.
Watson was arrested on four indictments by a Montgomery County grand jury. According to the Virginia State Police, Watson turned himself in Wednesday July 24, 2024. State police began an investigation in March of this year after an allegation was made regarding election fraud and was assisted by the United States Postal Inspection Service. Watson was arrested on four fraud indictments: three counts of felony election fraud and one felony count of illegally voting. Watson has been released on bond and no further information has been released.

“Liam Watson has served the citizens of Montgomery County in various roles for a number of years and was most recently elected in 2023 in a write in campaign by the citizens of Blacksburg for a seat on the Blacksburg Town Council. He is 24 years old, with a heart for public service, and has worked diligently for the citizens who elected him. We look forward to appearing in court.”
