Cole Beck, Nick Plant and Antonio Lopez Segura closed out the men’s East Regional competition on Friday, May 26 qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas.
Beck finished second overall in the 100m quarterfinals as one of only three men in the Nation to clock a sub-9.90 this season (9.87). He is also the first Hokie in program history to break the 10 second barrier.
Freshman Nick Plant won the 800m quarterfinals in Jacksonville stopping the clock at 1:49.21. Plant was seeded 18th in the quarterfinals after clocking a time of 1:49.63 in the first round.
For the first time in his career, senior Antonio Lopez Segura has secured an automatic spot into the semifinals finishing fifth in heat two of the men’s 5000m quarterfinals with a time of 14:05.28.
The season comes to an end for freshman Judson Lincoln IV finishing 13th in the 400m quarterfinals with a time of 47.04. Viktor Idhammar ran the eighth fastest time of the day in the 1500-meters 3:49.79, missing out on the semifinals by nearly two-tenths of a second.
