Auburn High School is starting to enjoy the view in the Mt. Empire District and Region 1C.
Both the boys and girls track teams rolled to titles Saturday on their home track. Auburn slipped by Rural Retreat 159-145 for the girls crown, while the boys dominated Covington 169-86.
Narrows was third on both sides of the track, while George Wythe fourth in the boys’ standings and Parry McCluer fourth in the girl’s competition.
Eastern Montgomery finished sixth on the girls’ side of the track and seventh in the boys.
The pole vault event belonged to Auburn as they claimed the top six spots in the boys’ division with a first place from Brandon Turman at 11’ and spots 2-6 for the girls with Laurel Defindini leading the way with a vault of 6-0.
Auburn took the girls’ 4X800 Relay, and Caitlin Dominy continued her dominance with a regional win in the 800-meters. Her team would take 3-6 with Anna Kuchan, Grace Hall Makenna Hallnan and Olivia Smoot.
Hall would also place second in the 1,600 with teammate Lilly Messner in third and Eastern Montgomery’s Annalyse McHone in fifth.
Jessica Nagel would also give Auburn points n the girls 300-meter hurdlers with a second place, while Madelyn Sale and Emilee Dove were second and third in the discus. Eastern Montgomery picked up fifth and sixth in the event with Rowan Conner and Madison Smith. Sale and Dove would take the same places in the girls’ shot put.
Jessica Musselman add to Auburn’s total with a second place in the triple jump, and Eastern Montgomery’s Haley Howard and Kiersten Atkinson were second and third in the girls’ high jump.
Eastern Montgomery would edge Auburn across the line in the boys’ 4X800 relay for the regional title
Auburn’s Carter Bailey and Jacob Hurd were 3-4 in the boys’ 1,600, while Brandon Turman finished second in the 400-meters. Eastern Montgomery’s Gabe Fox was fourth.
Carson East would give the host-school a second in the 300-meter hurdles, and Brandon Justice picked up a second in the 200-meter dash.
Adam Fithian and Alfred Shean were second and third for the Eagles in the boys’ discus throw. The teammates would switch places in the shot put.
Garrett East would give Eastern Montgomery some points in the long jump with a third-place finish.
The regional high jump title belongs to Auburn’s Jesse Shelor who had a 5-10 mark on Saturday.
Auburn will take the momentum into the state meet later this week.
