The Christiansburg Aquatic Center is back in full swim with a full schedule of activities and classes for August.
Set to be taught in the weeks ahead are the following:
Aqua Yoga
Aug. 7, 14, 21, 28, 8-9 a.m.; cost is $38R/$48N.
Aqua Yoga utilizes the principles and movements of hatha yoga and adapts them to the water. The yoga poses practiced in this class will help you develop strength and static balance, as well as, increase your range of motion. Beginners are welcome. The class will be taught in the therapy pool with instructor Thea Vincenti. The maximum enrollment is four.
Wam Water Move and Smooth
Aug. 10, 17, 24, 31, 10:30-11:30 a.m; cost is $38R/$48N
This warm water exercise program is designed for individuals with arthritic and mobility limitations. This class is for you if your goals include increasing strength, flexibility and range of motion in a relaxing and low impact atmosphere. Class will be taught in the therapy pool with instructor Jilliann Kowalcik. The maximum enrollment is four.
Mermadness
Aug. 10, 17, 224, 31, 6-6:45 p.m., cost is $55 R/$65N (fin rental is included in price)
Ever dreamed of being a mermaid or merman? This class will involve the use of “mermaid fins” that are absolutely challenging. Class will be taught in the leisure pool and is for those swimmers 16 and older with experienced skills. The instructor is Jilliann Kowalcik. The maximum enrollment is six.
Rolling in the Deep
Aug. 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 27; 9:15-10:15 a.m.; cost is $35R/$45N.
Strap on an aqua belt and jump in for a deep water class in the competition pool. Swimmers need to bring their own aqua belts and resistance gloves. (Gloves are not required.). Expect to perform aerobic exercises such as jogging, skiing and more. The instructor is Jilliann Kowalcik. The maximum enrollment is 16.
Hydro Power Tuesdays
Aug. 11, 18, 25; 5:45-6:30 p.m.; cost is $20 R/ $30 N.
This aqua class combines cardiovascular training and muscle conditioning through methods of interval training, abdominal work and muscle enduring activities. These combinations provide a great workout with the use of equipment such as pool noodles and water weights in the leisure pool. The instructor is Jilliann Kowalcik. The maximum enrollment is 12.
Rise’n Shine Water Aerobics
Aug. 12, 19, 26; 7-7:45 a.m.; cost is $20 R/$30 N. Get up & get fit. Gear up for this morning class that will get everyone ready for the work day. An aerobics class for the early risers who want to kick off their work days energized. The class is taught in the leisure pool with instructor Jilliann Kowalcik. The maximum enrollment is 12.
Hydro Power Half Hour
Aug. 12, 19, 26; 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.; cost is $15 R/$25 N.
This lunchtime aqua class combines cardiovascular training and muscle conditioning through methods of interval training, abdominal work and muscle enduring activities. Swimmers can expect to break a sweat in this low impact yet high-intensity workout in the leisure pool with instructor Jilliann Kowalcik. The maximum enrollment is 12.
Splash N Shimmy
Aug. 12, 19, 26; 2:45-3:30 p.m.; cost is $20 R/$30 N.
This class offers a high–energy and fun way to splash and dance the calories away. Come workout while listening to upbeat songs and shimmying to a new and improved lifestyle one song at a time. This is one big pool party in the leisure pool with instructor Jilliann Kowalcik. The maximum enrollment is 12.
GlideFit HIIT
Aug. 13, 20, 27; 6-6:45 p.m.; cost is $35 R/$45 N.
This class utilizes GlideFit Aquatic Boards as platforms on the water to add a new level of stability and core strength to your training. While you are performing exercises on the GlideFit Board, it will be necessary to enter the water to get onto the board. General comfort level in water up to five feet is recommended. This class offers a moderat-e to high-intensity workout. It’s taught in the leisure pool by Jilliann Kowalcik. The maximum enrollment is five.
