Cornerback Devin Taylor (6-1,200 lbs.), who led the Missouri Valley Conference in 2019 with 24 passes defended and was named all-conference, has transferred to Virginia Tech.
Head coach Justin Fuente confirmed Taylor’s addition to Virginia Tech’s roster on Sunday. Taylor spent the past three seasons at Illinois State University. He led the league in 2019 with 19 pass breakups and finished the season ranked sixth in the FCS in passes defended with 1.6 per game.
A native of Lansing, Mich., Taylor was named a third-team FCS All-American by Phil Steele.
He led Illinois State and tied for third in the Missouri Valley Conference with five interceptions as a junior in 2019. He was fifth on the team with 65 total tackles for the season. Across his three seasons, he played in 35 contests for the Redbirds and had 80 tackles, nine interceptions, 31 passes defended and one sack.
He is immediately eligible at VT after graduating from Illinois State this past summer.
