Margaret Blanche Leagan Akers, 94, of Radford, passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2019. She attended Bluefield College and retired from the Dublin Garment Factory. Born on June 18, 1924, she was a member of New Hope Church of God and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and spending time with her family and church family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Maggie Leagan; husband, Howard Junior Akers; and son, Garland Akers.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Eddie King of Radford, and Elizabeth and Danny West of Riner; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Phyllis Akers of Blacksburg, Eddie and Earlene Akers of Riner, and Karen Akers of Radford; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; special friend, Pauline Duncan; and many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank New Century Hospice and her caregivers Donna May and Heather Stover for the loving care and support they gave to her.
Funeral services were held Jan. 28, 2019 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Pastor T. Michael Bond officiating. Interment followed in the Hickman Cemetery in Pulaski County.
The family received friends on Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
