Edgar Thomas “Pug” Akers, 82, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017 at his home in Fairlawn. Born on Sept. 12, 1935, he was a U. S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and was retired from the Radford Army Ammunitions Plant. Pug was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Shirley Ann Dudley Akers; his parents, James Walter and Emma Russell Akers; daughter, Cynthia Yvonne Akers; and 3 brothers.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Lisa Akers of Fairlawn; grandson and his wife, Corey and India Akers of San Francisco, Calif.; granddaughter, Kalynn Akers of Dublin; great grandson, Kyler Gray; sister, Charlotte Boyd of Fairlawn; several nieces and nephews; and special canine companion, “Jet”.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 22, 2017 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Lester Kennedy officiating. Interment followed in Rockford Cemetery in Pulaski County where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct military graveside rites.
The family received friends Thursday evening. at the funeral home.
