Donald “Bub” Eugene Akers, 75, of Christiansburg, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024.
Bub was an auto mechanic for over 50 years and had owned his own shop at one time. He was very involved in auto racing and passed his love of that down to his son “Bubby.” Don loved farming and raising cow/calf pairs. He loved watching his grandson, Tayt, rodeo and rope and loved nothing more than being around his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Ervin and Frances Lytton Akers; and his brother, Ronald Dean Akers.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Carolyn Lester Akers; son, Don “Bubby” Akers; daughter and son-in-law, Tracy Trump (Ricky); grandson and his pride and joy, Tayt Trump; step-grandchildren, Katie Trump (Seth) and Ellie Trump; great-grandchildren, Arcadia, Liam and Ava; beloved canine companion and farm buddy, Gracie; siblings and their spouses, Dana Lester (Tommy), Dale “Brown” Akers (Sarah) and Teresa Hall (Perry); special nephew, Zach Thornton (Jamee); special niece, Emily Duncan (Dylan); sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathy and Steve Thompson; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends.
The family received friends Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Funeral services followed with Pastor T. Michael Bond and Perry Hall officiating. Burial followed in Lytton Cemetery in Walton.
