Calling all wizards of Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin!

Join the August 31 Potter in the Park fun with (left) Rita Skeeter (Elizabeth Powell Vallejo); (center) Snape (Gary Seidel); and (right) Bellatrix Lestrange (Natalie Ashton)!

Literacy Volunteers of the NRV invites you to fly in for the Second Annual Triwizard Tri-Mile Trail Race/Potter in the Park event to benefit its adult and family literacy programs.

On August 31 (Hogwarts Move-In Day) at 9 3/4 o’clock (9:45 am), muggles, wizards and 4-legged/1-headed leashed beasts will run or walk through the Wizarding World of Bisset Park in Radford.

The Potter in the Park event will feature costume contests (for adults, youth, and pets!), Quidditch demonstrations, care of magical creatures and potions classes with distinguished Hogwarts faculty, age group awards, door prizes, Potter food, and magical fun for all!

Enroll by Hogwarts house at www.lvnrv.org/potterinthepark.

After August 10, registration fees increase, and t-shirts and pet bandanas cannot be guaranteed.

Can’t make an appearance on August 31?

Sign up as a virtual “invisibility cloak” racer (complete a 3-mile journey whenever and wherever you please!) and you will receive a t-shirt and the magical feeling that comes from supporting literacy!

“We solemnly swear we are up to so much good,” said LVNRV executive director Linda Jilk. “Your support will help us win the battle against illiteracy. Accio literacy!”

LVNRV is a 501(c)(3) organization, United Way partner agency that provides adults with free instruction in reading, writing, basic math, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), basic computer skills and preparation for exams such as the GED. LVNRV also offers family literacy programs to help adults learn to read with their children and help them succeed in school.

There are approximately 15,000 adults in the New River Valley who do not have a high school diploma/equivalency and 6,000 have less than a ninth grade education.

Register for the Triwizard Tri-Mile Trail Race at www.lvnrv.org/potterinthepark. For more information, call (540) 382-7262 or send an “owl” to info@lvnrv.org. Follow https://www.facebook.com/LVNRV/ for race updates.
