The Virginia Tech men’s basketball team will open this season’s ACC schedule with a Dec. 7 game versus Pitt in Cassell Coliseum.
As previously announced in February, the Lady Hokies will play 18 conference games this season, one each against 16 conference foes and twice against the rival Virginia Cavaliers.
The Atlantic Coast Conference revealed the both the men’s and women’s full 2024-25 basketball schedule on Tuesday.
In all, the men host six of their 10 home league games on a Saturday, including the annual Commonwealth Clash presented by Smithfield vs. Virginia on Feb. 15.
Of the men’s 20 league games, the Hokies are set for home-and-home dates with Clemson, Miami, and Virginia. Additionally, VT will welcome Louisville, North Carolina, NC State, Pitt, SMU, Syracuse and Wake Forest to Blacksburg, while the Hokies will travel to Boston College, Cal, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame and Stanford.
Tech tips off its previously announced 11-game nonconference slate on Monday, Nov. 4 vs. Delaware State. Tickets to nonconference games are on sale now.
The Hokies’ conference opener vs. Pitt marks the fifth straight season they will open ACC play at home. The 2025 ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament will run March 11-15 at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.
Mike Young enters his sixth season at the helm of the Hokies, who feature five returners and 10 newcomers.
The Lady Hokies will play host to all three ACC newcomers in SMU, Cal and Stanford. The matchups will be the first ever against both California schools and just the third versus the Mustangs.
In contrast, Tech goes to the Research Triangle three times to take on North Carolina, NC State and the Blue Devils.
Tech has two three-game home stretches on the docket this season between Jan. 12-19 and then again from Jan. 30-Feb. 6.

Tech will open its 117th men’s basketball season at home Nov. 4 against Delaware State. The
season opener is the first of three straight home games for the Hokies, who will also face USC Upstate (Nov. 8) and Winthrop (Nov. 11) during the first week of the season.
As previously announced, the Hokies men will head to Baltimore, Maryland to square off with a familiar foe in Penn State as part of the Hall of Fame Series Baltimore on Nov. 15 at CFG Bank Arena. This marks the second time in three seasons Tech and PSU will clash.
The Hokies wrap up the month of November with the Fort Myers Tip-Off, which includes an on-campus game Nov. 20 vs. Jacksonville in Blacksburg. Tech drew Michigan for the opening matchup of the Beach Division on Nov. 25 at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers, Florida. The championship and consolation games are scheduled for Nov. 27 against South Carolina or Xavier.
Tech begins another three-game homestand by hosting Vanderbilt for the SEC/ACC Challenge on Dec. 4, followed by North Carolina A&T (Dec. 12) and Navy (Dec. 15).
In the nonconference finale, Tech will head to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the 2024 Holiday Hoopfest against Saint Joseph’s in The Palestra on Dec. 21. It will mark the seventh all-time meeting between the two former Atlantic 10 Conference foes.
The women’s 11-game non-conference docket includes seven home games on Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum, in addition to three exciting neutral site matchups and a contest at Power Four foe Georgia in the second edition of the SEC/ACC Challenge.
The Hokies will open the season Nov. 4 against UNC Wilmington, a program they have never faced. In its second contest Nov. 10, the Hokies will take on Big Ten champ Iowa in the Ally Tipoff held at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, a rematch of last season’s Tipoff game that saw the Hawkeyes earn a narrow four-point victory in front of over 15,000 fans.
From there, Tech will remain at home for a four-game stretch that will see the Hokies entertain UNC Asheville (Nov. 13), Coppin State (Nov. 16), Rutgers (Nov. 19) and Elon (Nov. 23).
Thanksgiving week, Tech will head south to take part in the Elevance Health Fort Myers Tip-Off’s Shell Division which features Davidson, Michigan and Belmont. Friday, Nov. 29 Tech will face Davidson and then Saturday will take on either the Wolverines or Bruins.
In December, Tech will travel to play Georgia in the second annual SEC/ACC Challenge on Wednesday Dec. 4 for a clash with the Bulldogs. Tech, who fell in the inaugural Challenge a season ago, is 0-4 all-time against UGA.
To conclude the non-conference slate at the end of the fall semester, the Hokies will play host to New River Valley foe Radford Dec. 15 and then face another Big South opponent at Cassell in Campbell on Dec. 21.
