Auburn High School’s Matthew Altizer has announced his commitment to play baseball at Concord University.
The first-team all-district, all-region and all-state catcher helped lead Auburn to another state title this past season.
He said Concord is the right fit for him and my family.
“It is close to home, the coaching staff believes in me, and it has all the tools to make me a successful baseball,” he said.
Concord, the Athens, West Virginia Division II school, has become home to several local players over the past few years. The team is coached by Drew Bailey, a former standout on the Concord mound and former Christiansburg Blue Demon.
The team’s roster includes former Christiansburg players, Dawson Gragg, JT Thompson and Connor Brizendine.
Altizer finished this past spring hitting .407 with two homeruns, 33 RBIs, 10 doubles and three triples. He also had a 4-0 record on the mound in 19 innings pitched with 35 K’s and a 1.47 earned run average.
He expects to be a pitcher at Concord and plans to major in business administration.
