Blacksburg Farmers Market

At Market Square Park, 100 Draper Rd SW, Blacksburg; 2 – 6 p.m. The Blacksburg Farmers Market is a local, family-friendly gathering place in downtown Blacksburg featuring farmers of locally grown produce and meats, alongside artisans of baked goods and handmade crafts. Market Square Jam

Blacksburg’s Market Square Jam is an official Crooked Road-affiliated venue that provides fun and entertainment on Wednesday evenings, June through September, at Market Square Park, 7- 9 p.m. This week’s performers is Mac and Cheese. Mac Traynham has led the group Mac and Cheese since the inception of Blacksburg’s Market Square Jam. The “Cheese” is usually Andy Buckman on banjo, George Slusher on guitar, and Sam Linkous on bass. This group of seniors loves to play the old-time dance standards of our region and foster community spirit through music jamming in public places.

 

Thursday, Sept. 4:

 

Family-to-Family educational program

National Alliance on Mental Illness, New River Valley Family-to-Family educational program, begins Sept. 4, 2025. NAMI Free, eight-session educational program designed for family members, friends, and loved ones of adults living with mental health conditions. Meets in person Thursday evenings, 6 – 8:30 p.m. through Oct. 30 at the New River Valley Community Services office, 401 W. Main St., Radford. Christiansburg Mayoral Candidate Forum

Sponsored by the NAACP Montgomery Co-Radford City-Floyd Co. Branch (NAACP MRF) and the League of Women Voters, featuring candidates D. Michael Barber and Carl R. Pauli, at Christiansburg Town Hall starting at 6:30 p.m.

 

American Legion meeting

American Legion, Harvey-Howe-Carper Post 30 will meet at 6 p.m. at the VFW Post Home, 102 Watts St., Radford. Students who represented Radford High School at Boy’s State will be recognized at this meeting. For further information, please call 540-250-2283 or 540-239-9864.

 

Christiansburg Farmers Market

The Christiansburg Farmers Market is located at Christiansburg Huckleberry Park. The market features local farmers and vendors each Thursday. Seasonal produce, plants, fresh baked goods, crafts, fresh flowers, and handmade jewelry are some of the items available for purchase. Items for purchase vary week-to-week. Check the Facebook page for details about weekly themes, prizes, vendors, and live music. The Farmers Market will run May 15 – Oct. 30, 3-7 p.m.

 

Saturday, Sept. 6:

 

Fall Music Festival

The Pilot Community Center is hosting a fall music festival, 3 – 6 p.m. Musical guests include Russell and Tracy Brewster, The Kipps Family, Jean Keith and more. Food will be available, and tickets will be on sale for the annual gun raffle. The event will also include a plaque unveiling to celebrate the community center’s addition to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Come and join in the fun! Monday, Sept. 8:

 

Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting

Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

 

Radford City Council meeting

The Radford City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Radford Municipal Building, 10 Robertson St., Radford. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. See the agenda at www.radfordva.gov.

 

Tuesday, Sept. 9:

 

Christiansburg Town Council meeting

Regular town council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Town Hall (100 E. Main St.). The public is welcome and encouraged to attend, with a citizen hearing time reserved at each meeting for residents to bring any matter they desire before the entire council. The meeting will be live streamed to the Town’s YouTube page at www.christiansburg.org/YouTube. Please copy and paste the URL into your browser and be sure to select Live videos to view. Agendas and minutes can be viewed at www.christiansburg.org/agendasandminutes.

 

Blacksburg Town Council meeting

The council meets in regular session the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. These meetings are open to the public and televised live on WTOB Channel 2.

Christiansburg Town Council Candidate Forum

Sponsored by the NAACP Montgomery Co-Radford City-Floyd Co. Branch (NAACP MRF) and the League of Women Voters, featuring candidates Joshua A. Bryan, Harry F. Collins Jr., Matthew A. Hicks, Tanya J. Hockett, Elizabeth S. Umberger and Christine A. Waltz vying for three open seats, at Christiansburg Town Hall starting at 6:30 p.m.

 

16 Squares Walking Tour

Meet the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation at The Alexander Black House every other Thursday at noon to explore the historic streets within the original 16 Squares of Blacksburg and learn the rich history and stories behind many of the buildings and landmarks throughout town that may go unnoticed. You may also schedule this tour by appointment if Thursdays don’t work for your group. As an add-on to this tour, you may also request a tour of historic St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall.

 

Saturday, Sept. 13:

 

Fish Fry

Mount Tabor Ruritan Club will hold its September Fish Fry 5 – 7 p.m. at Slusser’s Chapel Picnic Shelter, 1543 Mount Tabor Rd., Blacksburg. Serving fish, fries and slaw; homemade desserts; and beverages. Adults- $12, children under 12- $6, (under 3) -free, carry-outs- $12. Sons of Confederate Veterans meeting

Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stuart Horse Artillery Camp 1784 will meet at 7 p.m. at the NRV Super Bowl, 375 Arbor Dr., Christiansburg. Members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) are also invited to attend. Member T.J. Cox will present Part 2 of his talk on General Gabriel Wharton of Radford. Resident survey open: Virginia energy resilience study

The Town of Blacksburg, with support from the Virginia Department of Energy and Resilient VA, is undertaking a process to evaluate areas of energy vulnerability during extended power outages. The town has a short survey for residents to share their experiences. Survey link: https://forms.gle/ybrgLpBgwVqi4R3n6. Survey will be open until Sept. 12 and should take less than 10 minutes. Input will contribute to a case study the Town of Blacksburg will use to help guide practical actions for improving energy resilience, emergency preparedness and response.

 

Online survey for Blacksburg future new recreation facility available

The Town of Blacksburg is seeking community feedback for a future recreation facility. Citizens are invited to be part of the process by taking an online feedback survey that presents renderings of four potential locations for this new facility. Survey available at https://letstalkblacksburg.org/new-blacksburg-recreation-facility and will be open until Monday, Sept. 15 at 5 p.m.

 

Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam at Bee & Butter

Bee & Butter restaurant, in the Highlander Hotel on Tyler Ave., is now open on Monday nights during the Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam. The jam is held at the restaurant 6- 9 p.m. each Monday evening.
