BLACKSBURG – Warm Hearth Village resident Genne Gwynne recently returned from an extraordinary musical journey that took her from the heart of the New River Valley to one of the most prestigious concert stages in the world — Carnegie Hall.
Last month, Gwynne joined several hundred choristers from across the United States, including fellow members of the Blacksburg Master Chorale, to rehearse and perform Mozart’s Requiem in D minor. The June 22 concert was held at Carnegie Hall and featured a collaboration with the New England Symphonic Ensemble under the direction of esteemed conductors. The event brought together voices from around the country to breathe life into one of classical music’s most enduring masterpieces.
Gwynne, a lifelong music lover, also sang in a recent performance of Requiem at the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech. That production featured the Blacksburg Master Chorale and all of Virginia Tech’s choral ensembles.
“I’ve loved singing ever since I can remember,” said Gwynne. “But I never dreamed I’d have the opportunity to perform in a world-class venue such as Carnegie Hall. The experience was especially sweet because I grew up in a small rural town that had zero interest in community singing — it’s wonderful to now be living in a part of the world that celebrates the performing arts.”
