The Radford University baseball team won 28 games this past season, and with that change in the team’s success, the school has extended the contract of head coach Alex Guerra through the 2030 season.

He told reporters this past week he is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue leading Radford Baseball.

“Thank you to President Danilowicz, AD Robert Lineburg, and Associate AD Cory Durand for their belief in me and our vision for this program. I’m also thankful for our outstanding assistant coaches and support staff—their dedication and hard work are the backbone of our program. I also want to express my appreciation to our alumni, whose continued support and connection to this program help drive us forward. Their pride in Radford Baseball is felt every day by our staff and players,” he said.

Guerra is entering his fourth season at the school after an impressive 2025 campaign that ended with the team’s first winning record since the 2021 season and first Big South postseason appearance since 2019.
Prior to making his way back to the New River Valley, Guerra spent seven years as the top assistant on Marlin Ikenberry’s staff at James Madison University. There, Guerra helped guide the Dukes through a complete rebuild which saw them produce strong results on the diamond to go with a long list of standout student athletes.

Most recently, Guerra helped the 2022 JMU squad to a 27-26 record overall, which included 12 wins in the Colonial Athletic Association. It was the most conference wins for the program since 2016. After that season, seven Dukes earned all-conference honors, and the team posted a .971 fielding percentage that stands as the second-highest mark in school history.

Before his time at JMU, Guerra was a part of Joe Raccuia’s staff at Radford, where he returned to his alma mater to serve as an assistant coach for two seasons. With the Highlanders, Guerra was the team’s lead hitting coach and recruiting coordinator. He also worked closely with the catchers on a day-to-day basis.
Prior to his return to the Highlanders, Guerra served as the Director of Baseball Operations at Central Florida, where he then moved into a volunteer assistant coach position the following season.

Guerra played two seasons at NCAA Division III Greensboro College before transferring to Radford for his final two collegiate campaigns. As a Highlander, he batted .311 and drove in 94 runs while playing second base, shortstop and third base. He also totaled 11 home runs across his junior and senior campaigns.

Despite being without a home field for most of the Fall and Winter seasons due to the effects of Hurricane Helene in 2024, Radford saw marked improvements across the board. The Highlanders offense ranked top 100 in Division I for batting average, double, triples, and stolen bases while the defense turned the 34th most double plays in the nation.
During the 2025 campaign, Radford claimed key victories over UNC Greensboro, Georgetown, Virginia Tech (first ranked win since 2015), ETSU, and James Madison while in conference play earning sweeps over USC Upstate, Winthrop, Presbyterian and series victories over Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville. Moving on to postseason play, the Highlanders earned a dominant victory over Presbyterian for their first tournament win since 2018.
