James “Jimmy” Eugene Keene, Jr., 60, passed unexpectedly at his home in Radford Tuesday, June 10, 2025. James was born and raised in Glen Burnie, Md. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Military Police. He also was formerly a police officer employed with the Blacksburg Police Department, retired from the Lynchburg Police Department, and was currently with the Carilion Police Department. He lived a life of service as a field training officer and motorcycle officer, and participated in Project Life Saver, Sons of the Confederacy, Historical Docent and a Grand Mason. He had a servant’s heart and lived his life with integrity.

He was naturally funny and a great storyteller, loving old country music, cooking and riding his Harley with friends. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the law-enforcement community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Eugene Keene, Sr. and LaVerna Carroll Keene, and grandmother, Flossie Ramey.

Survivors include his significant other of seven years, Christina Knapp; sisters, Jeanie Keene (Jason) of Radford and Teresa Tyler (Pete) of Salisbury, Md.; nephew, Cranston Tyler (Chelsea) of Salisbury, Md.; niece, Lindsey Tyler (Brooks) of Salisbury, Md.; special niece and nephew, Fiona and Ryder Tyler, both of Salisbury, Md.; and many other relatives and friends.

The family received friends Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. The funeral procession followed, for interment with full military honors at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.

The Keene family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
