Thousands of people are expected to participate in the New River Valley’s (NRV) 12th annual GiveLocalNRV Giving Day next week.

Hosted by the Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV), this year’s 24-hour fundraising event will kick off at noon on Wednesday, June 25 and end at noon on Thursday, June 26.

Participating charitable organizations that serve the NRV use the GiveLocalNRV website (givelocalnrv.org) for free to raise funds and awareness for their missions. Additionally, these organizations are competing for the $25,000 in grants and prizes that the CFNRV gives away during the event. Early giving for this event opened on June 1, enabling the 121 participating organizations to fundraise most of June in the lead up to the 24-hour event.

“Each year through this event, people around the New River Valley and the world come together to uplift our region’s charitable organizations,” said Lindsey Gleason-Reed, the CFNRV’s assistant director. “Nonprofits are an essential part of a thriving community and ours do a tremendous amount for our region’s people, environment, animals, and so much more.”

Fueling the excitement of the day are the $25,000 in grants and prizes provided by the CFNRV and corporate sponsors. This year, there are 30 different awards available for participating organizations to win, which means that every donation can help an organization win extra funds. The event’s lead Diamond sponsors are National Bank of Blacksburg and the Cranwell Family Foundation. Other generous sponsors are Atlantic Union Bank, Carter Bank & Trust, First Bank & Trust, Automation Creations, Inc., LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, Locus, Olio Financial Planning, and Brown Insurance.

“We have supported the Community Foundation of the New River Valley’s GiveLocalNRV Giving Day since it began in 2014,” said Brad Denardo, chairman and CEO of the National Bank of Blacksburg. “It’s exciting to watch this event grow over the years and help so many deserving nonprofits raise funds for their important work. As they each tell their story this June, it’s clear how much nonprofits do for our community. We are pleased to once again support the Community Foundation with a matching gift to their Fund for the NRV, which is the engine that makes this annual giving day and so many other regional programs possible.”

A full list of this year’s participants is below. Additionally, many organizations are holding in-person events to celebrate the Giving Day this month. The CFNRV is partnering with Buzz4Good, a BlueRidge PBS TV show, to host an event to kick off the giving day starting at noon on June 25 at the Lyric Theatre in Blacksburg. The event will feature nonprofit leaders and musical guests. The show will also be livestreamed.

Since 2014, thousands of donors have raised $4.35 million through this event. To learn more, visit www.givelocalnrv.org. A donation of $5 or more can be made online. Participating organizations can also accept gifts of checks or cash for the event.
