Weekly Reports: Lady Bruins Improve to 13-1

The Blacksburg High School girls soccer team defeated Radford High School 8-0 on Friday night.

Erin Bishop led the way with three goals. Ginny Crawford and Piper Berger each had two goals apiece. Charlotte Ellis added a goal as well. Anna Dove recorded her 12th shutout of the season.

Blacksburg improved to 13-1 on the season and Radford dropped to 7-4-2.

Blacksburg Boys Remain Unbeaten

The Blacksburg boys’ soccer team controlled the pace in a shutout of the Radford boys this past week.

Pee Wee Distler and Peyton Cruise scored first half goals to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead. Keanan Kopp scored two early second half goals for Blacksburg. Jonny Joyce and Luca Ripepi each had two assists. Blacksburg would take the 3-0 win.

Cole Martin collected six saves for Radford while Nathan Pratt and Toby Jones shared the shutout for Blacksburg, who is now 13-0 on the season. Radford fell to 9-3 overall.

Christiansburg Softball Rolls to Win

Tyleigh Dillard hit two home runs and drove in three as Christiansburg defeated William Byrd 12-1 on Thursday. Dillard homered in the sixth and fifth innings.

Christiansburg won thanks in part to seven runs in the fifth inning. Addison Reasor singled, scoring one run, Reagan Smith homered to right field, scoring three runs, Dillard hit a solo home run to left field, Alliyah Akers doubled, scoring one run, and Ali Taylor singled, scoring one run.

Christiansburg was the first to get on the board in the first when Reasor homered to center field, scoring two runs.

Dillard homered to leftfield, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Aubrey Davis led things off in the circle, surrendering nine hits and one run over six innings, striking out one and walking none.

Christiansburg amassed 13 hits in the game. Smith, Dillard, Reasor, Sophia Russell, and Taylor each collected two hits for Christiansburg Varsity Blue Demons. Smith, Dillard, and Reasor each drove in three runs for Christiansburg, who turned three double plays on defense in the game.

Auburn Over East Mont

Faith Wilson drove in four runs on three hits to lead Auburn past Eastern Montgomery 10-0 in softball on Tuesday. Wilson singled in the fifth scoring two, singled in the second scoring one, and singled in the third scoring one.

Mallory Akers, Wilson, and McKenzie Booth at the bottom of Auburn Varsity Eagles’s lineup combined for eight of the team’s 16 hits in their victory. They scored four runs and drove in five.

Auburn was the first to get on the board in the first when Hope Wilson doubled, scoring one run.

Auburn added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Akers singled to right field, Wilson singled to center field, and Kaylee Ramrattan grounded into a fielder’s choice, each scoring one run.

Auburn extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Samantha Anderson and Wilson.

Booth earned the win, giving up just two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out eight and walking none. Mary Miller took the loss for Eastern Montgomery. The starting pitcher went four and one-third innings, giving up 10 runs on 16 hits, striking out none and walking two. Wilson tossed one inning of zero-run ball for Auburn in relief. The pitcher surrendered two hits, striking out one and walking none.

Auburn tallied 16 hits in the game. Akers, Anderson, and Wilson each collected three hits. Booth and Wilson each collected multiple hits.

Madison Hall, Chelsie Kennedy, Macie Akers, and Rena Chandler each collected one hit for Eastern Montgomery.
