A Christiansburg High School girls basketball standout has announced plans to continue her playing career at UVa-Wise. Katie Hoover is a back-to-back all-county/all-city player of the year and was this past year’s team scoring leader. She also became Christiansburg’s new scoring leader this past season. The four-year varsity player moved into first place with 1,252 points. She passed Daniele Motley who had held the mark for several years.
She says she chose UVa Wise because she fell in love with the coaching staff and their facilities.
“When I went to camp there, several years ago it seemed like home,” she said.
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise (UVa Wise) is a public liberal arts college with a current enrollment of 2,330 students.
The college is a member of the NCAA Division II ranks, primarily competing in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) since the 2019–20 academic year.
UVa-Wise returns 12 letter winners this coming season to a team which finished 7-11 overall.
Hoover, a 5-7 guard, expects to play that same position in college, while majoring in nursing.
