Michael Alan Randall, 88, of Christiansburg, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at his home. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa on Dec. 24, 1936, to the late Frank and Leona Smith Randall. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marilyn Jaynes and Elizabeth Wilson. 

Mike volunteered as an enlisted man in the armed forces at the age of 18. During his service to his country, he served in the Republic of South Vietnam on three separate occasions. He was awarded three bronze stars, numerous service medals, and the Expert Infantryman’s Badge. He successfully completed the U.S. Army Ranger and Airborne (parachutist) training. He worked his way up through the ranks and retired as a Major in the regular Army in 1982.

While in the military, Mike attained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska, a master’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a certificate of advanced graduate studies from the College of William and Mary. 

He is survived by his wife, Joyce J. Randall; son, Zachary A. Randall (Sabine); daughter, Stephanie L. Davis (Chuck); stepson, Walter L. Blount (Robin); stepdaughter, Amanda B. Cottone (Greg); grandchildren, Madelyn, Gavin, Dominic, Angelica, Michael, and Presley. 

A memorial service was held Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, at 1 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Don Leonard officiating. Interment followed at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery. The family received friends prior to the service at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
