This year’s New River Polar Plunge will take place using inflatable pools due to flood damage to the New River as a result of Hurricane Helene.

RADFORD – Brrrrrace yourself – the New River Polar Plunge Festival is back! Time to rally your friends to ‘Go For The Cold’ in support of Special Olympics Virginia.

The event is set for this Saturday, March 1. The New River in Radford suffered significant damage from Hurricane Helene, prompting officials to shift the 2025 New River Polar Plunge to a pool plunge. The event will be held on the field next to the Radford City Administration Building at 10 Randolph St., Radford. The schedule is: 10 a.m. – Registration opens; 12:30 p.m. – plunge festivities begin- opening ceremony, top team and individual announcements, costume contest, safety briefing and pool plunging begins; 1 p.m. – registration closes.

Organizers have prizes for the best costumes and top fundraisers, heated changing tents to take the chill off, and ‒ of course ‒ an icy dip into the inflatable pool with hundreds of your closest friends! It’s a big day of feel-good fun for an even greater cause. First-time plunger? You’ll love experiencing the thrill of the Plunge – and the warm feeling you’ll get helping to raise cold cash for 20,000 Special Olympics Virginia athletes.
