BLACKSBURG – Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley (Habitat NRV) is launching
a new campaign through its Cars for Homes initiative, asking a simple yet powerful question: How many cars does it take to build a home?
The goal is to raise $90,000 to support the construction of one of the 11 townhomes being developed on Airport Road in Blacksburg. Each donated vehicle will contribute to building safe, affordable workforce homes for families, proving that even an old car can pave the way for homeownership.
“Every vehicle donated through Cars for Homes directly supports local housing initiatives,” said James Drader, Executive Director. “With the growing need for affordable workforce housing in Blacksburg, this campaign offers a unique way for community members to turn their unwanted vehicles into something life-changing—a new home.”
Cars, trucks, motorcycles, RVs, and even boats can be donated, running or not. Vehicles are sold, and proceeds go directly to Habitat NRV. Every dollar raised helps construct townhomes for hardworking families.
Habitat NRV’s Airport Road Townhome Project will provide 11 affordable homes for families in Blacksburg, where rising home prices have put ownership out of reach for many. The townhomes will feature energy-efficient designs and accessible features. They will be part of a community land trust, ensuring affordability for generations to come.
Whether it takes 50 cars, 100 cars, or more, every donation brings us closer to our goal. If you have an unused vehicle, consider giving it a second life that provides hope and stability to a needy family.
