RADFORD – Radford City Council recognized the achievements of Radford High School students in the Bobcats Marching Band and fall sports programs during the council’s Jan. 27 meeting.
The council unanimously passed proclamations detailing those achievements.
“The Radford High School Fall sports season was full of tremendous accomplishments by bobcat athletes; and Radford High School teams and team members showed incredible determination, flexibility, and persistence in practice and participating in competitions,” the proclamation for fall sports reads.
“The Radford Bobcat Girls Volleyball team made it to the State 2A Quarterfinals and the Radford High School Girls Cross Country team placed 4th overall in the State 2A Finals,” it continues. “Several student athletes received individual recognition including: Football: Cole Martin-First Team All-State 2A Linebacker, Pace Prioleau-First Team All-State 2A Defensive Back and Nolan Dalton-Second Team All-State 2A Center; Golf: Hunter Crist-2A All-State Golf Team; Girls Cross Country: Cora Mosby-2A All-State Girls Cross Country; and Girls Volleyball: Mattox Adams-Second Team 2A All-State Volleyball.”
“We, the City Council of Radford Virginia, do hereby offer the highest congratulations to the 2024 Radford High School Fall athletes and coaches for these distinguished accomplishments, making the City of Radford very proud.”
The proclamation in honor of the marching band details the band’s accomplishments at several band competitions in the 2024 season.
“The Radford High School Regiment Bobcat Marching Band has long been a point of pride for the City of Radford with both individual and team successes at competitions for many years,” the proclamation reads.
The competitions highlighted in the proclamation include:
The Celtic Classic in 2024, in which the Radford High School Regiment Bobcat Marching Band received – 1st Place: Color Guard, Music, General Effect in Class AA, as well as a Superior Rating and 1st Place in Class AA.
The George Wythe Band Festival in 2024, in which the Radford High School Regiment Bobcat Marching Band – received 1st Place: Drum Major, Color Guard, Percussion, Music, Marching, General Effect and a 1st Place General Effect and Superior Rating in Class AAA.
The Blue Ridge Festival of the bands in 2024, in which the Radford High School Regiment Bobcat Marching Band received 1st Place: Color Guard, and 2nd Place Percussion, Marching, General Effect, and a 2nd Place in Class AA.
The Cougar Classic Competition in 2024, in which the Radford High School Regiment Bobcat Marching Band received 1st Place: Drum Major, Percussion, Music, Visual, General Effect, and was named Class AAA Champion.
The proclamation also mentions individuals with accolades include Triston Lineberry-VBBODA All District Band and Brooklynn Williams, Ian Mayer, and Triston Lineberry all of whom were named to VT Honor Band.
“These accomplishments are spectacular and represent the equivalency of a State Championship for the Radford High School Regiment Bobcat Marching Band,” it reads. “The City Council of Radford Virginia, do hereby offer the highest congratulations to the 2024 Radford High School Regiment Bobcat Marching Band, Band Director, Staff, and support team for these distinguished accomplishments, making the City of Radford very proud.”
