Anthony (Tony) Thomas Miano, 85, of Radford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Jan. 23, 2025.
Tony was born in Welch, W.Va. and played football at Concord College. Following his graduation, he started a successful career with Sears and Roebuck Company which took him from West Virginia, to North Carolina, and eventually to Virginia. After 20 years of service, he left the company to allow his family to settle in Radford. He started a successful career in insurance and became a vibrant and loved member of the community.
Tony’s infectious smile and personality touched many people including co-workers, neighbors and leaders of the community. He loved to use his daily swim, bike ride, or walk with his dog to interact with friends and meet new people. He also loved his weekly rounds of golf with the “lunch bunch” at Thorn Spring Golf Course.
Tony was an avid athlete that loved sports and taught his children and grandchildren to swim and play tennis, golf and racquetball. He was a Virginia Tech fan and enjoyed supporting the Hokies on the gridiron and hardwoods with his beautiful wife Nancy.
Tony was a faithful member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church for over 50 years and loved his parish family.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Concetta, his brother, Paul, and his sister, Carmela. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, their precious dog Auti, his children, Anthony (Heather), Gina (Michelle), Marc (Sarah), and Michelle (Shawn), his grandchildren, Anthony, Morgan, Alexandra, and Tyler, and many nephews and nieces which he loved as his own children. Tony is also survived by the loving families of Michael and Margaret Young and David and Amy Young.
Tony’s life will be celebrated at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, in Radford on Friday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. Following mass, the family will host a Celebration of Life gathering at the Highlander Hotel in Radford.
