RADFORD – Two Radford High School students have been named as winners in the Scholastic Art competition.

“Congratulations to Maggie Bolling and Abigail Castleberry for placing in this year’s Scholastic Art competition,” Radford High School announced.

Maggie won a Gold Key in Drawing and Illustration for her drawing “Crimson Jazz.” Her work will be submitted for judging in the national competition.

Abigail was awarded Silver in the Fashion category for her crocheted work, “Springtime Tote,” as well as an Honorable Mention in Photography for her photograph “Dreamy.”  Their work will be on display at the Fine Arts Center of the NRV starting Jan. 25.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, founded in 1923, are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Alliance’s mission is “to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards,” according to its website.

“The awards give students opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. In 2024, more than 110,000 teens across the United States and Canada entered more than 340,000 original works in 28 different categories of art and writing.”
